On March 20th 2002 at 00:30 my mum was rushed into the John Radcliffe
Hospital with acute myeloid leukaemia (aml). This is a journal of our
fight against the disease and all things in between. What's written will
sometimes be happy, sad, distressing, and occasionally mundane.
She was in remission until March 2004 when the disease relapsed. In July 04 she had a
non-related bone marrow transplant. So far everything is going well and she has returned
to full time work.
Originally mum was meant to trek The Great Wall Of China. However due to the leukaemia relapse I went instead.
We raised £4124.40 for the Anthony Nolan trust. But that's only the beginning, in November I shall be trekking in the jungles and mountains
of Mexico to raise money for the same charity.
My first press interview broadcast to the waiting masses!! But seriously, it's good to start getting press going and get some acknowledgement for the effort that's being put in.
Speaking of which...
It is going to be an amazing gig, possibly my first fully sold out night and I'm really looking forward to this one. Maybe I'll see you there.

January 18, 2006 : I Am Still Here
Yes I am honestly. I even check the site every day and other people's sites too, its just that I don't post very much at all. Even though I know I should.
Life as a music promoter is going well enough albeit busy. The last gig was a good one with all the bands putting on a bloody good show. As an added bonus (or several added bonuses) And No Star decided not to split up and I did an interview for BBC Radio Oxford which will hopefully be aired before the next gig. The next line up is Junkie Brush, EXP and Narcissism the last 2 being local favourites and the gig is on Feb 18th. Come one come all.
Mum is well, stressed but well. Theres nothing I can do about that but it still weighs heavily.

November 28, 2005 : Mum Update
All is good. In fact she'll be on her way back from Egypt right now. For the first in a very long time she has been able to go to a foreigh country, enjoy herself and forget about things for a while. She's been there for the last week helping a family friend celebrate his 50th birthday by cruising down the Nile on a boat. And I'm really pleased for her.
She doesn't have to go back to clinic for 3 months.

Yes I am I promise you, well any if you that still read this. I've been caught up in things, I Am Giant things mostly but also girlfriend things and being a lazy arse things.
After the raoring success of the Fell City Girl night the last one was bit of a back to earth with a bump time. I got slaughtered on the cash money front. In all fairness it was always a risky line up and the situation wasn't helped by the fact that the Mascarpone Sidewinders dropped out of the gig at close to the very last minute. Luckily Joe Swarbrick of Sexy Breakfast fame steeped up and did an acoustic set for me. So in the end we had an acoustic indie act, a rave act and a hip hop collective. Nice and diverse I'm sure you'll agree. But musically it went really well again and at the end of it people were up and dancing.
But it cost me. Big.
After a few days of feeling really sorry for myself I've decided to do the next one but it could very well be the last one too. It's xmas and we're going to Amsterdam for my birthday in the new year. So money will be tight and even worse if things go as badly as last time.
November 06, 2005 : Harry Angel & I Am Giant pics
A big congratulations to Harry Angel for getting through to play a "huge" Children In Need concert at Brize Norton airbase. They have been chosen by part public vote to represent the local (Oxford) music scene alongside Fell City Girl who got through without a vote and someone else. Best of all they get to support Girls Aloud and some people who may have talent. And comiserations to Big Speakers who lost out in the same vote.
Best of all they've either played at my night or will be. Speaking of which the website has been completely revamped and I'm especially pleased with the gallery section. So have a look and let me know what you think.

October 17, 2005 : It's Alive
Shit. I made it. Saturday night was make or break, really it was. I got burned so badly last time that I'd decided that I needed an acceptable loss where I would carry on or give up but I made a profit!!! I didn't break even over the two nights but I'm carrying on and I've got dates booked through to March next year.
And the gig? Well the gig was stunning, I mean it. All the bands were great and The Half Rabbits were the best I've seen them so far and I will be seeing them again. But Fell City Girl? Remember the name! FELL! CITY! GIRL! You will be seeing them again trust me. Big things are expected of them and I believe they will deliver. And the bands loved it. All of said they'd come back because the crowd were enthusiastic and appreciative.
Damn this could really be something!

October 10, 2005 : This Saturday
Who is coming to my gig? Well not my gig but the gig I am of course promoting in the name of music. Are you? Well are you?
Are you Liv?
Are you Kieran?
For only 5 of your English pounds you can see 3 of the very bands "indie" style "indie" bands (as we called them back in the day) including Fell City Girl who played at this year's Reading and Leeds festivals, The Half Rabbits who are superb and one of the best new bands in Oxford Harry Angel. And they're all a jolly nice bunch as well.
What more could you ask for on a saturday night in a pronvincial market town? Sure beats getting punched in the face by some pissed twat.

October 03, 2005 : Arse
Finally Rik Mayall confirms what I've suspected all along, with this little rant he shows us what an arse he really is.
When was the last time Bottom was funny? Was it ever? For someone who has built a career on the back of playing the same character (The Young Ones, Bottom, Filthy Rich, Mr Jolly...all the same character really) over and over again he should thank the BBC for putting up with his one dimensional talent for so long. Personally I think he should join his old mate Ben Elton and fuck off to somewhere cold, dark and very far away.

September 18, 2005 : Debrief
So how did it go? Well musically it was superb. I know The Walk Off can be a bit of a culture shock for many people but they are supremely entertaining and always good value for money. Sexy Breakfast played really well, the best I've ever seen them, which is twice. I didn't know what to expect from Suitable Case For Treatment, I'd heard good things but that's never a given personally speaking but they were fantastic and I'll make the effort to see them next time the chance comes up.
It terms of organisation it also went really well. The guys with the PA were 30 minutes late but despite that all the sound checks got done, the PA sounded brilliant and the changeovers were slicker than an oil spill.
Unfortunately there has to be a however. And this one is the number of paying bodies that we got. And it wasn't enough. So the night cost me £150 when I was hoping to break even. Still based on the feedback and enthusiasm I saw we should get more bodies through the door on October 15th. Remember that's October 15th.

Unfortunately she's not too well right now. A chest infection and a temperature. She spent a night in hospital but is home. She is just really quite unwell.
